Most likely from Guatemala, Ca 600 to 850 AD. Carved and painted grayware cylinder decorated with geometric motif in the form of some type of reptilian figure, small amounts of original pigmentation showing what appears to be jaguar spots, a human head in profile and a bird beak - all looking far more like Olmec than Mayan. Just over 7"H.
Provenance: Ex-O. Claiborne Collection, Santa Fe, NM.
