PIERCED SHEET IRON "B. W. R. R." WHALE OIL LANTERN, traces of japanned decoration, strap ring handle, base and cap with pierced stars and diamonds, fixed colorless globe embossed "B. W. R. R.", removable base with bayonet mechanism and fitted with a colorless glass font, No. 1 nickel-plated collar. Fitted with a tin and nickel-plated double-tube burner. Mid 19th century. 12 1/2" HOA, 4" D base.
Provenance: The Phillip M. Sullivan estate collection.
Very good condition with minute to moderate denting, light rust and pitting, globe with a 1 1/2" crack to base, which is hidden by the attached metal band, font undamaged. Burner tubes with light denting.
