PIERCED BRASS AND BLOWN MOLDED LANTERN, large ring handle, conical-form top with tiny piercings, droplet-form piercings to base, tapered fixed colorless globe, removable brass font with spring mechanism to underside of base, underside fitted with a lever which extends to thumbwheel for elevation, top of font impressed "E. J. HALE PATENTED JUNE 22 1858" and "PATENTED JUNE 12, 19, & 26, 1860." Period burner with elevation feature. Third quarter 19th century. 19" HOA, 5 1/2" D base.
Provenance: The Phillip M. Sullivan estate collection.
Excellent overall condition with minor denting, globe with an area of scratches near fitter, edge of font base with three holes, which do not affect the font. Burner lacking deflector and with a possible repair to wick tube.
