PATENTED BRASS AND SHEET IRON RAILROAD LANTERN, bail handle, bottom of cap fitted with a band with diagonal slides for securing globe and with traces of a maker's mark, hinged cap with spring tab for globe removal and marked "PATENTED 11, 1871 / MAY 2, 1871", colorless globe embossed "39" and with wire guard, removable base with a bayonet/Sangster catch mechanism and fitted with a sheet iron font, No. 1 inset collar. Fitted with a brass Sangster burner, thumbwheel marked "J. SANGSTER PATENT MARCH 25TH 1862". Possibly Buffalo Steam Gauge & Lantern Co. Third quarter 19th century. 16 1/2" HOA, 10" H to top of cap, 6 1/2" D base.

Condition
Excellent condition with some minor denting, globe with some minor manufacturing imperfections and a small shallow chip to fitter, base with some possible minor repairs. Burner deflector with denting.
