Description
DC Ashcan Covers Group of 4 (December 1944) Condition: Average VF. The interiors are not "missing," rather, only the covers were ever produced. The ashcans included in this lot are Movie Cartoons, Screen Comics, Screen Fables, and Screen Gems. They were used to secure the trademarks for these titles. All have the cover art from Boy Commandos #1. All of the back covers are blank. All of these have listings in the Overstreet Guide without a stated value, though the Guide notes a few previous sales averaging around $500 per ashcan. DC also produced ashcans with the same cover art for Movie Fables, Movie Gems, Screen Cartoons, Screen Funnies... yet none of the above resulted in a published comic title! However, there was a Real Screen Comics that debuted in Spring 1945. An interesting look at the Golden Age of DC!
