Joe Devito Superman Masterpiece Prototype And Un
Joe DeVito Superman Masterpiece Prototype and Unpainted Figurine (1998). The original hand-sculpted figurine, created by sculptor Joe DeVito from a design by Alex Ross, for Chronicle Books' classic 1999 Superman Masterpiece box set. The 8" prototype is made from two shades of "Super Sculpy", a permanent synthetic compound, and rests on a wooden base with a triangular Superman logo. It is very unusual for an original sculpture to survive the casting process. Other than minor repairs made to both legs, the statue is in Excellent condition. The white cold cast porcelain version, prepared from the mold of DeVito's sculpture, is one of the rare initial cast pieces that remained unpainted. It stands slightly less that 8" tall due to shrinkage during the casting process. It is in Excellent condition. Both pieces make a truly unique set and have been signed on the bottom of the base by DeVito.
