91415: Horrors of War Trading Card Group (Gum Inc., 193
Horrors of War Trading Card Group (Gum Inc., 1938). Quite possibly the most famous non-sport card set ever issued, The Horrors of War was produced by Gum Inc., the forerunner of the Bowman Gum Company. The often bizarre and gruesome illustrations are detailed and colorful. The set, detailing the Chinese-Japanese War, the Ethiopian War, and the Spanish Civil War, was comprised of 240 cards, but garnered such popularity that 48 additional WWII cards were added. These additional 48 cards proved not to be as successful as anticipated. Consequently the last 24 cards, and in particular the last 12 cards (8 of which are in this group), are very hard to come by. Any card picturing Hitler is especially desirable (1 is included with this group). This group includes much of the set (for the full list, see the online listing at HA.com/7059). The War News cards are in Poor to Good condition with rounded corners, soiling, and aqua paint on a good number of the cards. The Horrors cards ranges from Very Good to Very Fine, with a few having slightly clipped corners. From the Jack and Julie Juka Collection.
