Description

Pennsylvania, probably Dauphin County, painted blanket chest, ca. 1795, the ends decorated with floret and tulip stenciled ovals, the front with similarly decorated panels with central red and green stars flanking a stylized heart, all on an intricately stenciled ground, the interior is fitted with a till and serpentine wrought iron hinges, 22 1/2'' h., 51'' w., 23'' d. Provenance: Elwood Heller Auction, Lebanon, New Jersey.

Condition

Very little decoration left on lid. Repaired break to rear foot. Lock is present but not attached.
