Description

Apollo 15 Flown National Flag of Norway Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 5.75" x 4" cloth Norwegian flag that traveled to the moon on Apollo 15's 1.4 million mile journey, July 26-August 7, 1971. The flag's design of a blue Scandinavian cross outlined in white against a red field was first made official in 1899. Worden has signed along the lower edge: "Flown to the Moon/ on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". Excellent condition save for some barely-noticeable pinholes at left.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Al Worden" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from Norway included with this letter went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight."
