Space Shuttle: Original Nasa "Flight Assignments
Space Shuttle: Original NASA "Flight Assignments" Board. Purchased years ago from a NASA auction, offered here is an incredibly interesting piece of memorabilia from this recently discontinued manned spaceflight program. A massive item on two layers of foam core with mounting strips on the back, it measures 8 feet long and 4 feet tall and was used to plan payloads for early STS missions. There are more than thirty 5.5" long shuttles foam core "shuttles" with color-coded payloads attached by Velcro on the board. Separately, included are more than thirty 3.25" x 5.5" matboard printed cards where the shuttles are called by their Orbital Vehicle Designations: OV-99 (Challenger), OV-102 (Columbia), OV-103 (Discovery), and OV-104 (Atlantis) and various payloads are listed by flight number. These were all originally attached with Velcro that has now all separated from the cards. The "Legend" at the bottom of the board matches the following types to the color-coded ships: "NASA", "Commercial", "DOD (Department of Defense); "Other Government", Foreign", and "P/L (Payload) of Opportunity". The condition is a bit rough with two corners damaged, and general soiling and wear. Someone with the patience to clean it up and re-attach the cards would have a one-of-a-kind display for their collection.
