Discovery was the third spacecraft to fly in the shuttle program. Its first launch was STS-41-D on August 30, 1984 and its last touchdown was STS-133 on March 9, 2011. During its twenty-seven years of service, it successfully accomplished thirty-nine missions, making it the Orbiter Fleet leader. Spending more than a cumulative one year in space, it traveled 149 million miles, and orbited the earth 5830 times. The first operational shuttle to be retired, Discovery is due to be displayed at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Washington Dulles International Airport.
