Philadelphia, PA, ca 1880s. A pine butt-joined crate with rope handles, used for both shipping and display, with applied label decoration for J.S. Ives' Sons Steam Bakery, advertising their crackers, cakes and biscuits, their offices on 321 N Front St., Philadelphia, Pa. Side has "Vanilla Wafers" stenciled on it, the back has "E.H. Bancroft / Lebanon, Del" written in black paint; ht. 9.75 in. x wd. 21.5 in. x dp. 14 in.
