reverse.
Oil on canvas, 9 x 12 in. (22.9 x 30.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor surface grime, scattered craquelure.

Provenance: Collection of Robert Fuoss, former editor at The Saturday Evening Post, then by descent within the family.

N.B. The present work was one of seven vignettes of various parings (one adult to another) that were created as story illustrations for the Ladies' Home Journal (November 1936) for a picture editorial called "Gossips" by Norman Rockwell.

This image is related in subject to the Saturday Evening Post cover illustration published on March 6, 1948 called "The Gossips," (Moffatt C441).

Condition: Craquelure to areas of heaviest impasto on both women's hats; may benefit from a very gentle cleaning; no additional condition issues to report.
