Second half 19th century, walnut, the horizontal crestrail centering addorsed griffins flanked by crowned eagles above a pierced back with cherubs supporting a shield and lion's mask between foliate carved stiles joined to female sphinx-mounted arms with foliate scroll terminals on leonine uprights over a shaped padded seat with an acanthus and scrolling vine carved seatrail, on square tapering legs, 62.5'' H x 30'' W x 22'' D, est:$1500/2000

Condition

Good condition overall. Structurally sound. General marks, scratches, and rubbed wear commensurate with age and use. Some scattered shrinkage cracks, including two to pierced back extending entirely through. Scattered minor chipped losses to carved extremities, including several to the points of the eagles' crowns. Visible old woodworm. Upholstery faded and slightly worn.
