Circa 16th-17th century AD. A large hand-wrought iron axe head with hammered socket to receive shaft, the blade bearing three impressed maker's marks and with broad convex cutting edge. Found Bull Wharf, River Thames foreshore, London. Iron, 1.6 kg, 22 cm. (8 1/2").
