Description
Circa 1608.. A ceramic export ware dish painted in blue glaze with two confronting standing phoenixes, flanked by leafy trees and below a large chrysantheum, surrounded by a border of fishscale decoration and five cartouches, each with two sprays of flowers and blossom; the reverse with scattered leaves. The Bin Thuan shipwreck was found in Vietnamese waters in 2000. Ex Bin Thuan wreck sale, lot 653, with extract from sale catalogue; Steinberg collection Ceramic, 788 grams, 28 cm (11").
Condition
Extremely fine, tiny edge chip to glaze.
