Description

Howard (Ebenezer) To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform,
first edition, half-title, 7 colour plates and plans, one folding, a couple of small marks to title and endpapers browned but otherwise an excellent copy internally, original red cloth, title in black on upper cover and in gilt on spine, rubbed and lightly stained, spine faded, [PMM 387], 8vo, 1898.

***Very rare and influential work re-issued in 1902 under the title Garden Cities of To-Morrow. Howard's utopian view that the Town and Country magnets "must be made one" led on to the creation of the Garden City Association and ultimately the first garden cities at Letchworth in 1903 and Welwyn in 1919. "He was to live to see not only the spread throughout the world of the movement he had started singlehanded, but the establishment of Town and Country Planning as a universally recognized obligation of government in the civilized world. Satellite towns, and the very latest suggestion of city-clusters, were well in the forefront of Howard's ideas." PMM.
