Antique “Bacon’s Birds-eye View of South Africa”, circa 1900. An interesting birds-eye view map of South Africa, originally a large lithographed folding map. Place names and relief show in a wonderfully colored presentation. Inset maps of Northern Natal and another of Mafeking to Pretoria, both insets also birds-eye views. The separate cover for the map, complete with seven pages of information about “The South African Crisis” (Glossary of Boer Terms, Boer History in Brief, The Boers) along with some advertising, is enveloped on the reverse of the framed map. Framing: Minimally framed, hinge-mounted on a museum grade foamcore, plexiglass glazing. Dimensions: 26 x 39 ½ inches showing, 31 x 43 ¾ inches overall as framed
Condition: Very Good. Some minor foldline splitting, mended on verso with archival linen; some very light staining or foxing about map; no marks. A very nice example of this rarely seen map
