EUROPEAN OIL ON CANVAS, C. 1850-1910, 12" X 20", FARM SCENE:Depicts a father and son pulling brown and white horses out of barn. Illegibly signed lower right, gilt wood and gesso frame.
Not dated. Very good quality and coloration. As viewed under blacklight in the unopened frame: minimal amount of overpainting. to be found almost exclusively in 2 patched areas - the 1st in the right center where there is an 'L' shape repair with the 'L' shape patch on the verso measuring 1 7/8" x 2 1/8" - 2nd one is in the left center where there is a vertical rectangular patch on the verso measuring 1 7/8" x 1/2", although the overpainting. on the recto is more of a smaller square area - and lastly, just a few flecks of overpainting. in the LR. Craquelure in the UR with light cracking of the paint where the stretcher bars are. Not lined. The painting appears to have been fairly recently cleaned, excepting underneath the signature, - still a little bit of yellow showing. Original stretcher bars and gilt molded gesso 4" wide frame which has some chipping/losses and cracking. Rf
