Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton, at the Rothschild Proust Ball, 1971
Gelatin silver print, flush mounted to contemporary card, signed on the mount in red pencil, photographer's stamp verso, 23.5 x 23.5cm (9 1/4 x 9 1/4in) Provenance: A gift from the photographer to Brian Hammond, owner of Gerry's Club, Soho, 1970s and thence by descent. Beaton was the only photographer present at the Rothschilds' Proust Ball at the Château de Ferrière where he set up a special studio and dressed himself as Nadar. Taylor wore a couture Valentino dress with a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace entwined in her hair.
