Description

Large, abstract marble sculpture by American artist, Leon Axelrod (b. Chicago 1919). Engraved signature and plaque with title, "Devotion". Rests on a black lucite pedestal (included). Measures 64"h with pedestal. A sculptor working in stone, onxy, and marble, Axelrod blends contemporary form with classical mediums. His work is mathematical, geometric in precision and balance, and fluid in appearance. In addition to using hammer and chisel, he uses modern technologies such as diamond cutting wheels, carbide grindstones, and pneumatic chisels.
