Leonard, Norbert: Fashion Photo, Heinz Ostergaard
Outdoor fashion photo for Heinz Ostergaard, Berlin. Circa 1949. Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print on Agfa-Brovira paper. 24 x 18 cm. Photographer's stamp and annotated in ink on the verso.
Norbert Leonard had a solid start in the fashion photography working for Die Mode. Due to his Jewish background he was later interned in a concentration camp where he became a counterfit printer for the National Socialists. He escaped a death march during the last days of the war and managed to make it to Palestine. He eventually returned to Berlin working as a photographer for Stern and other magazines. - Traces of previous mounting on the verso, some pressure marks from writing on verso, a few handling crease marks, small chemical spot in mid-portion of coat, otherwise in good condition.
