Rather amazing Iris glaze vase painted by Grace Young in 1904 on a Special form. Pictured are 10 exuberant barn swallows doing what barn swallows do best, swooping and diving, generally in pursuit of an insect meal. In typical Grace Young fashion, each bird is beautifully detailed and positioned in the scene. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, Special Shape number S 1772, an incised W for white (Iris) glaze and the impressed monogram of the artist. Height 10 1/2 inches. There is a minimal amount of crazing in the wings of two of the birds and a tiny glaze rub on the top edge of the rim.
Slight amount of crazing and small rub on rim.
