Important Rookwood Sea Green vase with Rooks perched in a ginkgo tree, the work of Matt Daly in 1899. The birds, limbs and leaves are done in heavy slip and lightly carved to enhance the definition. The eyes of the two birds are scooped out to make them show up. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, shape number 787 C, an incised “G” for Sea Green Glaze and the incised initials of the artist. Height 11 3/8 inches. Light overall crazing. A striking example in a rare glaze line done by one of Rookwood’s best, depicting the bird for which the company is named.
