1151: Rookwood Mahogany Glaze, Berries/Dragonfly, Arv
Mahogany Glaze vase decorated in 1884 by Albert Valentien who arranged a dragonfly, done in heavy slip, flying around some berry bearing branches, the berries also arrayed in heavy slip. Impressed Rookwood in block letters, with the date, shape 30 B and an R for red clay (Standard Glaze on a red clay body constitutes the Mahogany Glaze) and incised with Mr. Valentiens monogram. There is faint crazing and the vase benefits from the presence of some Tiger Eye effect. Height is 11 5/8 inches.
