Iatmul Sepik River Mask & A Wood Carving, New Guinea
A ceremonial mask, also called a homicide mask, of wood, clay, shells and feathers with a painted face and cowry shell eyes. Beard and edges are decorated with shells embedded in clay. A carved beak extends from nose to chin and Cassawary feathers form its hair and beard. 23 inches. Also a multi-faced painted wood carving with cowry shell eyes. 31 inches.
Mask has lost some of it's clay decoration on the right side.
