200: ENGLISH GENERAL OFFICER’S SWORD 1855 pattern
1855 pattern with maker’s name HAMBURGER ROGERS and Covent Garden street address (1840-70) dating this sword to 1855-70. Additional inset proof to the base of the 30 1/4" slightly curved blade. Each side decorated with foliage, crossed sword and baton badge and crowned VR cipher. Brass “Gothic" hilt with matching badge. Wire wrapped leather covered grip. Hilt shows good patina. Grip excellent. Blade crisp and bright with pitting along the edge only, about 4" each side. Datable to the Zulu Wars and Sudanese Wars.
