GIII-8 CORNUCOPIA - URN PICTORIAL FLASK, olive amber, half-pint, faint pearl to left of cornucopia, sheared mouth, light rough pontil mark. New England, probably Keene or Coventry Glass Works. 1825-1850. 5 1/2" H.

Catalogue Note: Thomas Dale Barnes (1910-1991) was born in Grove City, Mercer Co., PA. He moved with his family to California in the late 1920s when his father, Dr. Morgan Barnes, an 1895 graduate of Harvard University accepted a teaching position at the innovative, outdoor-oriented Thacher School for Boys in the Ojai Valley. With encouragement from his parents, Tom assembled his bottle collection during the late 1920s and early 1930s from many of the pioneering dealers of the day including Earl and Rhea Mansfield Knittle of Ashland, OH. Copies of correspondences with the Knittles accompany this lot.
