A RARE AND IMPORTANT SILVER CHANUKAH LAMP. Ukraine, c. 1820. The back plate highly chased with repousee depictions of griffins flanking a set of stage curtains that open to reveal the blessing over the lights. Surmounted by an eagle. Further decorated with scrollwork and floral decoration and Solominic columns that support a balustrade, behind which are a pair of griffins rampant flanking a circular floral cartouche surmounted by a coronet, The base consists of a rectangular tray on which are mounted eight later crowned lions (replacements) with open mouths, for the insertion of wicks, on a footed later added base.
