Great Civil War Albumen Portrait of the Field and Staff of the 8th New York Militia at Arlington House, Virginia. Image 11" X 14 1/2" on 13" X 17" mount. Obviously early war, with an NCO on guard duty in the background still wearing the gray New York State uniform with white buff. Beautiful image, taken on the steps of Robert E. Lee's house. Aesthetically posed and clearly the work of a highly skilled photographer. The regimental colonel stands in the middle with junior officers on the steps around him. Most with M1850 staff & field swords, while one officer has a cavalry saber, and another a pre war plumed helmet pommel militia staff sword. Image superb quality, and both image and mount in perfect condition. A really striking early war image.
