Description

In the manner of "The Banknote Engraver", decorated with a portrait of a couple standing in front of a horse drawn wagon with a house to the side titled "the departed", the reverse showing a whaling ship flying an American flag and H houseflag with a lighthouse in distance, the bottom of the tooth marked "A. B. Trowbridge at sea 1840", Trowbridge is listed as being a boatsteerer on the "Canton Packet" of New Bedford on the 1841-1845 voyage, built in 1836 and was converted forwhaling only in 1841 (see J.N. Lund et al., American Offshore Whaling Voyages)((the image of this farewell scene can be found on several teeth that are attributed to the banknote engraver, this tooth lacking in the fine border as the others).Length 6 inches.
