Lincoln Wide Awake Marcher with Torch, Ninth Plate Ambrotype
Ninth plate ambrotype of a Lincoln Wide Awake marcher wearing one of the original style slickers and kepis used in the very first organized Wide Awake Clubs. The marcher also holds a torch with red and yellow tinting, making it appear lighted. This young man could very well be an original Hartford Wide Awake, as the insignia and style are very early in their evolution as the craze spread across the United States from New England to Minnesota. Uncased.
Provenance: John D. Pfeifer Collection
Uncased.
