Herbert Hoover Official Inaugural Medal
Bronze medal, 2.75 in. dia. The obverse features a bust portrait of Herbert Hoover and reads Inauguration - March 4 1929; the reverse features American eagle with head turned toward the bundle of arrows in its talons, with names of Hoover and Vice President Charles Curtis above. The right features devices as emblems of mining and steam shovel excavation. At base is Roman writer Agricola's treatise De Re Metallica. The left features what was described by the sculptor, Bush-Brown as the American Star of Hope, sending its rays of relief to the people of Europe, which is represented by a map that highlights France, Germany, and Australia. Medallic Art Co. made the dies for this medal and the U.S. Mint struck 1,012 in bronze.
