Weighing around 20 pounds and about 24" tall, this is the largest Wood Guanyin I have handled in 30 years. She is seated on a multi-faceted Lotus Throne with a wonderful Lotus Flower "opening" in front of her lap. Circa 1750-1820, the dark, hardwood is 100% original with nice natural tone and might (from the grain) be Xinjiang Walnut. Surely from an old Temple (where replacement is always done when they collapse from insects and/or typhoons) where she was revered for a long time, she is much older than 90% of the ones I have seen in Temples open to the public today or in any foreign museum. Possibly from the Silk Road, a very special example that cannot be duplicated in America.
