He is also well remembered for his role in “East of Eden” in 1955 and in “Giant” in 1956. He died in a car crash in 1955.. He was the first actor to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor posthumously and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him 18th best male movie star on their 100 Years - 100 Stars list.
