540: Joe Jeanette Cinderella Man Cornerman Sweater
This boxing sweater was worn by the character "Joe Jeanette," portrayed by actor Ron Canada, in the 2005 motion picture, "Cinderella Man." The navy wool sweater has the name "James J. Braddock" embroidered on the back and has the original "Broadway Knitting Millsing" label sewn on the inside with the name "Joe Jeanette" handwritten in black ink. Mr. Canada can be seen wearing the sweater as the Braddock's cornerman during the heavyweight championship fight against Max Baer (Craig Bierko). "Cinderella Man," starring Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, and Paul Giamatti, was nominated for three Academy Awards and two Golden Globe awards. Joe Jeanette is considered one of the best African-American heavyweight boxers of the early 20th century. Upon retiring, he became a trainer and owned a boxing gym in New Jersey where eventually he trained Braddock. The sweater is in very good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
