AMERICAN SCHOOL WHALING DRAWING, pencil on paper, openwater scene depicting four skiffs, two harpooned whales, mother ship and two icebergs. Signed in pencil on back Louisa Scorsby and Mary Scorsby. Period gilt frame. Mid 19th century. 6" x 10 1/2" image, 10 1/2" x 13" overall. Catalogue Note: The Scorsbey family comprising Thomas and Louisa (b. c. 1805), and daughter Mary (b. c. 1830) immigrated to New York from England in 1834. The 1850 Federal census locates the family living in Fallsburg, Sullivan Co., NY in 1850.

Good condition with a short edge tear, lightly penciled inscription across image.
