Circa 6th century AD. A cast bronze bird brooch with ribbed chevron panel for the wing, cloison eye with glass insert partly remaining; the bird facing left, catchplate and pin-lug to the reverse. Property of a Middlesex Gentleman; acquired in the early 1980's. The brooch is unusual in having the pin-lug placed behind the tail and the catchplate behind the head. Bronze, 5 grams, 37 mm (1 1/4"). [No Reserve]
Fair condition, pin lost in antiquity.
