Continental Currency
Revolutionary War “Economic Warfare” in 1775 May 10, 1775, $30, Contemporary Counterfeit, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. Manuscript Cancels on front and back. A scarce “Tory” Counterfeit, engraved and printed in an effort to destroy the fledgeling American economy during the early stages of the Revolutionary War. As the American economy was largely dependent upon the acceptance of this new “Continental” paper money, as well as the individual states issues of Paper money, the entire success of the Revolution depended upon people’s faith and use of this medium of exchange for trade and provisions. The British attempted several times to wreck this effort by introducing Counterfeit notes into circulation. This example was detected and marked, so as never to pass again. It remains in quite excellent, original condition with only light circulation. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
