Large Russian Church Icon Depicting the Dormition of the Virgin, 19th century, the kovcheg panel with the apostles surrounding the Virgin's earthly body while Christ stands holding the Virgin's soul, flanked by archangels and Bishops, with the twelve apostles wrapped in cloth and transported to the site by angels centering the heavenly enthroned Virgin above, 45 1/2 x 37 1/2 in.
Condition: Cracks to painted surface due to panel separation. Inpainting and repairs to border, particularly along top of left side.
