Description

“Wooded Landscape” oil on board, signed by Jean Mannheim (1863 - 1945). Born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Mannheim studied at Ecole Delecluse, Académie Colarossi in Paris. Moving to Chicago in 1884 he continued his painting as well as taught at Decatur Art School. Mannheim, famous for his unique style in figure studies and landscapes, also taught at Brangwyn’s School of Art in London and The Denver Art School before becoming a member of the Laguna Beach and Long Beach Artists Associations and founding the Stickney Memorial School of Fine Arts in Pasadena, California. The highest price brought for a Jean Mannheim painting has been $82,500 for Lot 50 “Remeniscence” at John Moran Auctioneers on February 18th, 2003. Sales for pieces similar to this one in terms of size, medium (oil on board, 10.5” X 13”) and simple depiction of nature’s forms include $7,150 for Lot 57 at John Moran Auctioneers on February 15, 2001. Dimensions: 18.5” X 15” with frame, 13.5” X 10” without.
