Black Hills SIOUX Plains 1920s Native American 7th of 21 Lots Pair Pine Hills South Dakota Sioux Beaded Moccasins

This is the SEVENTH of 21 lots from the estate of Painted Horn Eagle, the adopted name of Indian ethnologist William Edwards of the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania community of Wilkinsburg who resided on the Pine Ridge Black Hills community village of Kyle South Dakota Sioux Reservation in 1920 and again from 1929 and 1930 as a guest of Chief White Buffalo. The lot is accompanied by a photo copy of a letter of provenance from the Grand niece (name of the individual is contained within letter) of Painted Horn Eagle and included on the copy is an image of Mr. Edwards in full tribal regalia along with a copy of the reverse inscription on that photograph identifying him with his Native American name. Additionally the lot includes a photo copy of a period Pittsburgh PA newspaper article documenting the visits of Mr. Edwards together with fellow Pittsburgh area resident Richard Neff as well as images in the article of Chief White Buffalo and his family.

The SEVENTH lot is a pair of Sioux beaded moccasins from the estate of Painted Horn Eagle (William Edwards) acquired on the reservation between 1920 and 1930.
Red, white, aqua and green beads, on leather measuring approximately 10 1/2 inches in length and 3 3/4 inches in width.
