GISSON, Andre (born 1921, sometimes recorded as 1910, died 2003, born Anders Gittleson), American born West Port Connecticut, studied and traveled in France: (“Landscape with Mother and Child”) Large impressionist Ecole de Paris meadow landscape featuring a woman and a child in a sunlit meadow along side a boat at waters edge, 24 inches high by 36 inches wide within ornate gesso washed gilt frame 32 1/4 inches high by 44 ¼ inch high by 1 5/8 inch deep, signed lower left Gisson.
Provenance: Janet Fleisher, The Little Gallery, inventory number 3201. Consigned by a relative of the artist residing in the Southeastern United States.
NOTE: This is the third of three works by Gisson from two separate estates all related in subject matter that are featured in this sale as individual lots.
BIO: Andre Gisson was born Anders Gittelson and graduated from Pratt Institute. He was a major figure in the international school of Paris Impressionism and showed in New York, California, London, Paris and Tokyo for nearly half a century. His work is included in the Smithsonian and he is listed in BENEZIT and WHO WAS WHO in American Art.
Condition: Very good with no significant issues. No craquelure. Frame has scattered light wear.
