Large Rookwood decorated Art Pottery 13 inch Iris glaze vase with a floral design set in a garden or landscape motif by noted artist Kataro Shirayamadani, form number 1358B. Signed with Rookwood mark, Roman numeral VIII date code for 1908, form number and incised Shirayamadani signature in Japanese.
Our research indicates that Shirayamadani used smaller versions of the 1358 form for a number of works; however the use of his large 13 inch version, while known, appears to be rather scarce. Another Rookwood artist who used the large 1358B form was E. T. Hurley.
Measures 13" tall with a 6 3/4 inch base ring and maximum body diameter of 7 inches
Condition: No chips, cracks or hairlines. Glaze has crazing throughout.
