de Coubertin (Pierre) Universites Transatlantiques, 382 pages, green cloth, the front cover stamped gilt LYCEE DE BELFORT, published by Librairie Hachette et Cie., Paris, 1890 In his capacity as an educationist Pierre de Coubertin travelled widely through the United States in 1889 studying how the education system had evolved in the New World, and also took the opportunity to drum up support for his ideal of reviving the Olympic Games which would come to fruition four years later when the IOC was formally founded at the Sorbonne in Paris to organise the Games at Athens two years later.
