Description
The Black Pirate (United Artists, 1926). One Sheet (27" X 41").
This classic silent swashbuckler is one of Douglas Fairbanks' most famous roles and certainly the most desirable film poster of his career. The film was shot entirely in an early two-strip Technicolor process, making it one of the only silent films shot in color, and was a major success for the star. Fairbanks' astonishing acrobatics are amazing stunts even by today's standards, including the most famous one, his riding down a sail on the edge of a knife, as well as the scene in which he cuts loose the corner of a billowing sail and then holds on as the wind carries him up off the deck of the ship and high into the rigging. It is hard to imagine a more beautiful stone litho image than this one in all of its unrestored beauty. There are pinholes in the borders and minor wear at the crossfolds. Otherwise, this poster is untouched and magnificent. Very Fine+.
