George H Laurent Pr Gilt Bronze Emperor Penguin sculpture Bookends Art Deco Dore Marble Plinths signed #d Arctic Subject Statues
LAURENT, George H. (French, active circa 1920): Emperor Penguins: Pair if miniature dore bookends mounted on variegated marble plinths each signed G.H. Laurent. One bird is also numbered 43, the other bird in numbered 44.
7 inches high including plinths, 2 3/8 inches high by 2 1/4 inch square, statue measures 4 7/8 inches high by 1 1/2 wide by 1 1/4 inch thick.
Provenance: Gulf Coast collection.
Both statues structurally sound with no breaks. Both with noticeable but generally even gold patina wear. A few small spots of verdigris in the crevasses. One bronze has about twenty small darker patina dots along the back edge of the feathers as illustrated in the detailed images. Typical very small corner losses to plinths commensurate with age. Very special estate find!
