Evelyn Beatrice Longman (American 1874 - 1954), plaque, bronze, circa 1932, 22"h x 16 1/2"w x 1 3/4"d. Longman was the first woman sculptor to receive full membership in the National Academy of Design, and was protégée of Daniel Chester French, assisted French on the Lincoln Memorial. Distortion to plaque from de-installation. Plaque depicts Henry Morrill Batchelder, her father-in-law, a noted co-author of the important late 19th C. book "Historical Sketches of Salem 1626-1879", published by the Essex Institute. EBL married Nathaniel Horton Batchelder, the first headmaster of the Loomis Chaffee School in 1920.
