A Roman marble head of Medusa, 2nd Century AD, a copy of a Greek original, the hand of Perseus grasping her hair. From a larger composition, the features are elegantly rendered, the hair styled back and terminating in serpent heads, a few them attempt to bite the hero's hand that grasps them. Some restoration to the left side of the face, but well detailed with nice surfaces. H: 12" (30.4 cm); L: 15" (38 cm). Mounted on a custom base., Ex Old French Collection.
