A choice Corinthian Pyxis, c. 6th Century BC, the body decorated with a swan, lions and a human-headed bird, four, six and eight petalled rosettes in the fields, black & red banding below and around the neck. The base of the lid and the handle also with black and red banding, six petalled rosettes around the top. Intact with light wear to the surfaces. A very nice example of this type, commonly thought to be a cosmetics container. H: 7 1/4" 18.4 cm). Ex Dudley Short, UK, acquired in the early 20th century.
